Paul specialises in all aspects of landlord and tenant law, residential and commercial; leasehold enfranchisement; easements/restrictive covenants.
He acted for the successful appellants in Bakewell Management Ltd v Brandwood (2004, House of Lords) concerning vehicular access over common land and the acquisition of easements by prescription and lost modern grant.
He acted for the freeholder in Lloyd-Jones v The Church Commissioners for England (1982, Lands Tribunal) and, more recently, for the lessees at 62 Cadogan Square in the Nailrile appeals (2008, Lands Tribunal). Both of these are leading cases on leasehold enfranchisement, the former concerning valuation of the freehold reversion and the latter concerning valuation of intermediate leasehold interests.
He has contributed articles to The Law Society's Gazette, Landlord & Tenant Review and other property periodicals. He is currently co-authoring a book on commercial property litigation.
